ESOL DEPARTMENT MISSION

The M/J Language Arts through ESOL, together with the M/J Developmental Language Arts through ESOL classes, is committed to providing language-sensitive instruction by selecting academic language functions that promote higher-order thinking and integrating concepts and skills from as many content areas as possible.  Learning is an active and dynamic process.  Students are given many opportunities to interact with authentic texts, especially literature, and to use language for personal communicative purposes.  Students develop the ability to comprehend, appreciate, and learn from different types of text.  We encourage our students to communicate ideas and express insights in oral and written form.  Teachers, parents, and the business community work as partners in improving student achievement.
