Small Group Counseling

The grade level counselors, as well as the Trust Counselor, at Miami Lakes Middle School, offer small topical groups each nine weeks.  Groups typically last 6-8 weeks.

Self-Esteem Group – Students work in groups with peers to discuss their self-image and work with peers to develop a more positive view of self.

Friendship/Social Skills Group – Students work with peers to develop social skills such as making eye contact and active listening.  Students also discuss strategies for increasing and improving peer interaction.

Anger Management Group – Students work with peers to develop and practice strategies for coping with anger.

Divorce Group – Students work with peers who have also experienced divorce and provide support for each other.

Grief Group – Students explore the stages of grief and the impact the loss of a loved one has had on their life.

Life Skills – Students reflect on multiple aspects of life issues for adolescents and work to develop multiple life skills with peers in a small group setting.

Study Skills – These groups are designed to offer students skills to help them become better students and test takers.
